 INTERNATIONAL CLUBS

In 2007 with the support and encouragement of Scottsdale Sister Cities Association Board of Directors, four high schools initiated student clubs focused on increasing international awareness and involvement of Scottsdale young people.  Those high schools are:

Chaparral High School
Coronado High School
Desert Mountain High School
Notre Dame Preparatory
Saguaro High School

Two teachers, Teresa Kayona and Faith Harris at Chaparral High School began an International Club there during the fall of 2008.  It is off to a great start.

All of the International Clubs have had exciting programs in 2008.  Even more exciting programs, including student international exchanges are planned for 2009.

Students of Scottsdale high schools who wish to join and participate in exciting international projects are invited to contact any of the club officers, or the faculty advisor of their school, or Max Rumbaugh at youthprojects@scottsdalesistercities.org.

At the Scottsdale Sister Cities Board meeting on September 9, the Board approved the formation of a student Junior Board.  One representative of each International Club will be a member.  It can be the president or another officer.   The purpose of the Junior Board is to coordinate student activities of the international clubs in Scottsdale and to help plan exchange trips.

In addition, the Board of Directors authorized one student of the international clubs to be a member of each Sister Cities committee.  For example one student can become a student member of the Alamos sister cities committee, one student member can join the Interlaken sister city committee, one can join the Kingston sister cities committee and one student can be a member of the Marrakech sister city committee.  Danielle Desjardins of DMHS has agreed to serve on the Marrakech committee and Bridget Williams also of DMHS has been nominated for the Junior Board.  The other International Clubs are encouraged to get their nomination in quickly.
