Under the leadership of Caitlin Collins and with the guidance of Adrienne Jones, faculty advisor and math teacher at NDP, a return exchange trip is scheduled for October 17 – 21, 2009 to Kingston, Ontario Canada. The students will visit cultural sites with students from Regiopolis Notre Dame High School in Kingston. Students from Regiopolis visited Scottsdale in April, attending classes, participating in a panel discussion at Scottsdale Community College, and visiting interesting sites here.
SSCA President Joe Brett plans to accompany the students. He then plans to extend his trip for a few days. He has offered an invitation to SSCA board members to accompany the students and then possibly extended the visit to Kingston and the surrounding area.
Kingston became a Scottsdale Sister City in 1994 as the result of the efforts of then Mayor, Herb Drinkwater. Herb was born near Alexandria Bay, New York, just across the St Lawrence River from Ontario, Canada and spent his summers there after the family moved to Arizona.
Kingston is strategically situated on the shore of the St Lawrence Seaway Corridor. Known for its beautiful waterways, visitors can sail from Kingston all the way to Montreal or Quebec or into Lake Ontario and many cities and towns that line the shore line in the US and Canada. A popular cruise is up the Rideaux Canal to the Ottawa. Kingston offers adventure and culture with numerous festivals, fine dining, theatre and sports. It is the home of Queen's University, former War of 1812 British garrison at Old Fort Henry, and the Canadian Royal Military Academy whose campuses sweep down the shoreline of Lake Ontario. Many historical tours are available during the summer months.

The Thousand Islands
The Thousand Islands are a chain of islands that straddle the U.S-Canada border in the Saint Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. The islands stretch for about 50 mi (80 km) downstream from Kingston, Ontario.
Canadian islands are in the province of Ontario. The U.S. islands are in the state of New York. The islands, which number 1,865 in all, range in size from over 100 km² (40 sq mi) to smaller islands occupied by a single residence, to even smaller uninhabited outcroppings of rocks that are home to migratory waterfowl.
The number of islands was determined using the criteria that any island must be above water level for 365 days per year, bigger than one square foot (roughly 900 cm²), and support at least one tree or shrub. The area is very popular among vacationers, campers, and boaters, and is often referred to as the 'fresh water boating capital of the world.'
